Resin traps are safety devices that prevent penetration of resins or solids into the pipe system.
They are used in ion exchange units, high-purity water systems, activated carbon, and media filters.
We specialize in custom manufacturing.
Our sales, engineering, and production teams have the experience to manufacture what you need to the highest degree of excellence.
What is Resin Trap?
A resin trap, often referred to as a resin trap strainer or filter, is a device designed to capture and remove unwanted particles, debris, or contaminants from a fluid stream.
A resin trap consists of a pipe housing and a resin trap screen. A resin trap wedge wire screen protects your media beds in the event of a catastrophic failure. Generally, resin trap screens are flanged at the bottom of a sand filter tank or mixed bed and protected by mostly stainless steel or plastic housing. When the resin or media passes by, it can be intercepted and captured by the wedge wire filter screens. At the same time, the captured resin or media can be discharged out of the system by flushing automatically through the differential pressure between the front and rear installed near the outlet of the water system line.
Furthermore, wedge wire resin trap screens should be considered in the backwash lines of most ion exchange and carbon systems because temperature-related flow changes can cause these costly materials to be flushed.
Wedge wire resin traps serve as a last line of defense in ion exchange systems by capturing dislodged resin beads before they reach downstream equipment.
At their core, these traps are designed to ensure operational safety, prolong equipment life, and prevent costly downtime.
✔ High-Precision Filtration
Customizable slot sizes from 0.2 mm to 2.0 mm ensure accurate retention of resin beads without flow restriction.
✔ Non-Clogging Design
V-shaped wires create a self-cleaning surface, allowing for higher flow rates and minimal maintenance.
✔ Stainless Steel Durability
Constructed from SS 304, 316L, or Duplex for excellent corrosion resistance in aggressive chemical environments.
✔ Custom Configurations
Available in inline, flanged, or threaded versions to suit your system's piping and flow requirements.
✔ Backwash-Compatible
Designed to withstand backpressure and allow reverse flow cleaning for extended service life.
Wedge wire resin traps are used in a wide range of water treatment applications:
• Ion Exchange Systems: Cation, anion, and mixed-bed units
• Water Softening Plants
• Demineralization & Deionization Systems
• Condensate Polishing in Power Plants
• Ultrapure Water Systems in Electronics and Pharma
• Pre-filtration for Reverse Osmosis Systems
• Municipal Drinking Water Treatment
• Seawater desalination in industrial water uses
The wedge wire screen resin trap is made up of rods and warp. The rod can be round wire, triangular wire, or trapezoid wire.
At the same time, wedge wire screens have many advantages such as heat resistance, good machine capability, safety and reliability, and so on. It can be used in many kinds of medium filtering.

Q1: How do I select the right slot size for my resin trap?
A: Slot size is based on the bead size of your ion exchange resin. For standard resins, a slot size between 0.3 mm and 0.5 mm is typical. Our engineers can help specify the best size for your application.
Q2: Can wedge wire resin traps be backwashed?
A: Yes, many of our designs support backwashing and reverse flow cleaning, extending their service life.
Q3: What materials are recommended for aggressive environments?
A: For corrosive or high-temperature applications, we recommend 316L stainless steel or Duplex 2205 for added durability.
Q4: Do you offer custom-built resin traps?
A: Absolutely. We provide custom sizes, connections, and designs to suit OEM systems or retrofit projects.
Q5: How often should a resin trap be inspected or replaced?
A: Regular inspection during routine system maintenance is recommended. With proper care, wedge wire resin traps can last several years in continuous service.
